I have been controlling Type 2 with diet for over 10 years. No meds. I said no after reading about side effects. I educated myself by reading everything I could about the disease and getting rid of it. Books by Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Donald Colbert, Dr. Joel Furhman and many books by nutritionists. For me, I do best by avoiding carbs and sugars. No bread, cereals, pastas, crackers, sugars. Love your veggies, berries, lean meats and fish. Buy organic when you can. I also drink a couple of tablespoons each day of organic Apple Cider Vinegar. I try to walk and ride my bike. I still have 10 pounds I need to lose but overall, blood sugar has been controlled. I have blood work every six months. I learned that high cholesterol usually goes along with diabetes so losing weight is the best fight against that. I say no to Statins too! Unfortunately, I just read a book about the link of Alzheimer's to Diabetes so it is very important to get it under control. Take control of your health and educate yourself and see what works for you!
What do I eat to control my blood sugar?
My breakfast this morning: Oikos Yogurt Triple Zero (only one I've found with Stevia), organic berries and walnuts. Yum!! Read labels!! I try to never consume anything with more than 6 or 7 grams of sugar. Drink a lot of water, black or green tea. I make my own lemonade with pure water and add my own fresh lemon juice. (I don't even use stevia any more. I've read over and over that your taste buds will adjust if you keep with it. It's been true for me).
