These foods have been associated with an increase in the stress hormone cortisol and a decline in serotonin. Sodium restriction is suggested to help minimize bloating, fluid retention, and breast swelling or tenderness. Caffeine limitation is advocated primarily because of its association with an increase in irritability, nervousness, and sleeplessness.
