How This Helps

Tangerines contain abundant quantities of the antioxidant compound, vitamin C. This vitamin removes the excess amounts of free radicals from the body and protects the body against several diseases like arthritis, reduces high cholesterol levels, protects against many viral diseases, helps in healing of wounds, and prevents the development of degenerative diseases. The fruit also contains other antioxidants like naringin, naringenin, beta-carotenes, vitamin A, xanthins etc.
A naturally occurring phytochemical compound, tangeretin, is present in the peel of the tangerines and it shows anti-cancer activity. This compound has shown good results in the lab for inhibition of the leukemic cells. Moreover, this compound also prevents the effect of mutagens on the cells, which is another cause for cancer.
Tangerines contain very high amounts of the beauty flavonoid, hesperidin. This chemical along with vitamin C helps in the collagen formation, which provides structural support to the skin. This delays the effects of aging and keeps the skin younger-looking. Moreover, this flavonoid also has antioxidant properties and protects the skin against UV damage, pollution, illness etc.
