A 33-year male presented with symptoms of recurrent skin rashes associated with itching, redness, flaking skin. This skin condition is called as Eczema which is called collectively for a group of conditions that cause the skin to become red, itchy and inflamed. In Ayurveda it’s correlated to Vicharchika. According to Ayurveda, Vicharchika is a Rakta Pradoshaja Vyadhi with all the three doshas (V, P, K) involved with dominance of Kapha. In conventional medicine, the line of treatment includes Over the counter topical ointments, phototherapy, immunosuppressant and biological drugs. The skin in these regions were dry and with the appearance of flakes. No oozing is present.
Internal Medications
Manjishtadi Kashaya – 15mL Ksh + 45 mL warm water twice daily before food
Triphala churna – 2 tsp. with 1 glass of warm water at bedtime
Khadirarishta – 20 mL after food twice daily
Kaishore guggulu tab – 2 each with Kashaya
For external application,
Lakshadi thaila before bath
Washing the lesions with Triphala Kashaya after bath
Application of Gandhakadya malahara lepa after bath
Recommended Panchakarma procedures –
Virechana (Therapeutic purgation) and Rakta Mokshana (Bloodletting)
After 3 months of treatment, the patient showed significant improvement and there was no recurrence of eczema found. He was asked to perform a virechana and raktamokshana every 6 months.
Diet advised –
Light and warm food
Bitter vegetables
Older grains and green gram
Barley and Oats
Intake of meat during the treatment course was not advised
Patient was asked to reduce/avoid the use of dairy
Sour food and fruits like mangoes should be avoided
Black gram and horse gram should be avoided
