Two years ago, a 37-year-old woman came to see me for Adriamycin-induced cardiomyopathy (Hodgkin’s lymphoma). For several months, I tried titrating beta-blockers and ACE inhibitors but she couldn’t tolerate them. At this point, she was severely symptomatic with palpitations from frequent PVCs. She was on oral contraceptives for many years, primarily for extreme dysmenorrhea.I had been talking about lifestyle changes at every visit, but she wasn’t totally open. When her symptoms became unbearable for her and finally, she was ready to try “anything.”
My prescription was strict dinacharya, meditation, and a strict diet. I asked her to stop the contraceptives. I didn’t start with any herbs.
3 months later, she came back, feeling significantly better. She had adopted the diet, dinacharya, and meditation. She was cooking every day and exercising a few times a week (I told her no strenuous exercise, but yoga or Pilates were ok). She still had some symptoms and her menstruation hadn’t returned.
I saw her for 6 months and she was a changed woman. Her menstruation had returned, being regular with absolutely no discomfort. She had excellent digestion with no issues in her Sleep. Stress was a thing of the past (she’s started self-inquiry through some of my material). She’s put on a few pounds, per her, “in all the right places.” She can’t stop talking about it with her friends.
The miracles of bringing neurohormonal pathways into balance! A successful example of using integrative medicine for dysmenorrhea and getting a positive outcome!
