About me
I'm Dr. Desiree Donovan, a practicing Naturopathic physician in Johnsburg, IL. I hold a B.S. in Biology with a concentration of pre-medicine from DePaul University in Chicago, IL and a Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from National University in Lombard, IL. I didn't start out with the goal to be a Naturopathic doc, I had always been involved with and received conventional medicine. It wasn't until the beginning of my senior year at undergrad that the little voice in my head began to shout and question all that I knew:

"If a person is on a medication for conditions like high cholesterol, Diabetes or thyroid disease then why are they not getting better? Why do we only address symptoms and not address the cause of those symptoms? If every person is unique then why do they all receive the medical cookie cutter approach?"

Let me just say that this was not an overnight revelation. I have personally struggled for years with weight and metabolic issues, which I had come to accept (unhappily!) that I was going to have to suffer these struggles the rest of my life. I would like to point out that I didn't throw the towel in on my health. Nope! I proceeded to try ever trick in the conventional book. But like all things that never get to the bottom of the problem, I would get a little bit better but then relapse worse than before. I was like a truck stuck in the mud, spinning my tires and getting no where.

With all this frustration and questions I had taken up an internship opportunity at a chiropractors office to see what alternative medicine was like. Let me just say that was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. At that internship I got a taste of not only working and seeing the benefits of working with natural therapeutics, but also seeing that the underlying cause was part of the treatment focus. I have since learned to seek change in my health for the better and to empower myself to make those changes through knowledge. That is my goal is to encourage you to seek change for better health in your daily life and to empower you through education to make those changes.
