Timothy Jones, Functional Medicine
Total years in practice: 5
Hello, I’m Dr. Timothy Jones, MD. I believe that my job is to empower patients to make informed decisions that lead to a happier, healthier life. For over 20 years, I worked as an ER doctor and saw the same patients return again and again with the same chronic problems. They’d come in with long lists of medications. We’d treat their symptoms and CAT scan them, but the majority of the time, their results would be normal. We’d send them to specialists who would say there was nothing wrong. The patients would be prescribed more medication and sent home. I thought there must be a better way to help people, but I didn’t know what it was. In 2012, I began learning about functional medicine. Actually, it was my wife Jean who introduced me to it. As a certified health coach, she’d become very interested in functional medicine and its benefits, and I accompanied her to a talk, really just to be supportive. We heard these inspiring stories about people who were able to get off a long list of medications just by changing their lifestyle and diet. I thought, “Gee, maybe we can help people make big changes in their health. At this time, I was also running a medical concierge practice, serving patients who were too ill to get to the hospital. I began using a functional medicine approach with these patients and saw staggering results. One patient, a woman with MS, was able to stop her medications for diabetes and blood pressure just by changing her diet. The MS left her bed-bound, but she had significantly less joint pain, greater range of movement, and, most importantly, a better quality of life.
