48 years old male patient came with raised fasting blood sugar of 150mg/dl and post prandial sugar of 360mg/dl with HbA1c level 9.2 since past many years. Along with this he was moderately hypertensive with reading as high as 170/90. His personal history included poor lifestyle factors like sedentary lifestyle, no proper dietary management, regular intake of sweet and junk food on weekends and zero exercise. Also, he was bit overweight crossing his BMI above 26.
Basic weight loss up to 5 % in patients who are overweight to obese have shown good control over blood sugars. Along with this proper diet planning as per his calorie requirement, protein intake and moderate fats a planned exercise regime included brisk walk of 40 minutes daily helped him lower his post prandial sugars to 200mg/dl after 15 days. The most important in whole therapy is its consistency by patients which was done by constant follow ups every 15 days. Along with diabetes management his Hypertension had to control through DASH diet which included lot of vegetables and fruits keeping in mind his sugar level as well. Low Glycemic Index foods with high fiber were included which gave him amazing results.
After 15 days: Sugar levels (PP2) had dropped to 200mg/dl from 360mg/dl and blood pressure was 128/85. Present plan was continued for another 15 days and results were seen after another 3 months. He was asked to monitor his sugar level by glucometer at home.
Follow-ups: Follow up plan after 3 months included his HbA1c dropped to 6.2 from 9.2 and continuation of diet therapy and exercise regime on daily basis.
