Discussion on Cineraria Maritima, Homeopathic Eye Drops:
Cineraria maritima is a medicinal herb whose aerial parts are used to prepare ophthalmic preparations in homeopathy. The massive demand for whole aerial biomass distributes to the high cost of the medicine. Therefore, studies to determine the influence of several micronutrients on biomass production of the herb have taken place.1
Influence of Fe, B, Zn, and Mn in the biomass production of Cineraria maritima
The above study showed that a higher supply of these micronutrients has been favorable in shoot production. A uniform lower supply decreased the biomass production of the herb. A higher dose of boron (1.0 mg/l) and zinc (1.0 mg/l) were more beneficial than the doses of iron (11.2 mg/l) and manganese (1.0 mg/l).1
Thidiazuron Induced High-frequency Shoot Proliferation in the Cineraria maritima Linn
The scarce medical species used for the treatment of cornea and cataract demands for high planning material. The standardized in-vitro protocols are used to increase biomass production. The culture medium for the same includes MS salts, B5 vitamins, 30 g/l sucrose, and 8 g/l agar. The addition of thidiazuron in the culture media responded in the highest shoot bud induction at six weeks of the incubation period. Later on, following the in-vitro protocol resulted in a significant shoot proliferation.2
Experimental Research in Cataract with Cineraria maritima
Cineraria is the best seller homeopathic medicine in India because of the noticeable results contributed by the studies conducted there. The trial included a set of one hundred and twelve patients. The four-times dosage in a day was their treatment regimen. In some complicated cases, an additional dose of alpha-dinitrophenol decided ten drops as the dosage schedule in a day. Sixty percent of the patients showed a permanent cure of the disease. Therefore, the study revealed the prophylaxis treatment of cataract through the application of Cineraria.3
Conclusion: Cineraria is used to cure as well as treat the cataract and several eye disorders, especially cataracts. The use of micronutrients such as Fe, B, Mn, and Zn increases the biomass production of the scarce herb.
