Specific Advice:
Pathya: Buttermilk, Pomegranranate, Bel juice and Khichri (split moong + rice)
Outcome:
Patient got significant relief after taking four months of treatment. In patient’s own words, she got 95% relief and started normal diet.
Ulcerative colitis could be correlated with Grahani (Pittaj ) roga.
In all types of grahni roga mainly Vata dosha is involed. When vata involves pitta along with it shows ulcer formation in large intestines, which in turn shows symptoms of frequent, unformed stools sometimes mixed with blood and mucus, But in this case there were no symptoms of blood or too much mucus, this might have been controlled due to intake of steroids she was already taking.
Due to disturbed lifestyle and social stress Vata is affected in intestines. (Specifically, Samana type of Vata is affected.) It hinders digestion and absorption strength of intestines. Hence, the normal functioning of grahni (Anna grahan, Pachan, Vivechan & Mun chan) gets affected which increases the frequency /consistency of stool, and involvemnet of pitta dosha produces ulcers in intestine.
In this case Jiva Doctor planned medicines keeping in mind Grahani Chikitsa Sutra for symptomatic relief.
