Crescent Moon Pose- Try Chandrasana to beat depression

Table of Contents

How This Helps

Chandrasana or the crescent moon pose is helpful in reducing depression and anxiety and aids digestion. Further it stretches the calves, hamstrings and the groins, spine, shoulders and chest. Ardha chandrasana benefits include strengthening of the abdomen, thighs, ankles, spine and buttocks.

Notes

To bring into focus the half moon yoga pose, we should briefly examine yoga mythology. The yoga mythology attaches great symbolic significance to the moon. For instance, when we examine hatha yoga, the twin polar energies in every human body are represented by the moon and the sun. Further, the syllables ‘ha’ and ‘tha’ are esoterically interpreted to signify the lunar and solar energies. Similarly, ardha in Sanskrit means half and Chandra denotes a shining, glittering object with hue or brilliance of light (usually in the context of referring to God) and generally translated as the moon.
