How This Helps
Useful For: Diabetes, CVD
Oats have been recognized as one of the healthiest foods for a long time now. β-glucan in oats is a type of soluble fiber that plays a key role by slowing carbohydrate absorption and thus maintaining healthy glycemic control and enhancing insulin sensitivity in diabetics. In addition to this, the various viscose fibers present in oats have shown to reduce elevated serum cholesterol levels. This cholesterol-lowering action helps in preventing building up of cholesterol plaque in the arteries and hence reducing the risk of atheroscelosis, stroke and cardiovascular diseases.

Science and Research
A study published in Diabetic Medicine showed that when oats
containing β-glucan was incorporated in a meal, the post-meal glucose
levels had lowered in subjects with or without diabetes. A review
published in the Oxford University Press Journals investigated the
results from various studies. It concluded that daily consumption of at
least 3 g of oat β-glucan may reduce total and bad cholesterol by 5-10%
in subjects with high cholesterol levels.
