Complaints: Chronic shoulder and low back pain due to physical job fixing mechanical parts on an airplane.
Acupuncture: Right-side yin horary points in Metal-Order of LU11, KD2, LR3, HT4, and SP9. LU11 was intentionally left out because it was a highly sensitive point and fire point HT4 is a central element for his constitution. Sasang herbal formula Shi Er Wei Da Bu Tang (Ge Gen, Long Yan Rou, Yi Yi Ren, Mai Men Dong, Tian Men Dong, Gao Ben, Huang Qin, Sheng Ma, Xing Ren, Wu Wei Zi, and Shan Yao) for a Greater Yin primary and Lesser Yang secondary (aka Pitta-Kapha in Ayurveda, Choleric in Unani, and GinLang in Tetrasoma.
Treatment process: In 2.5 months, he had 8 acupuncture treatments, which reduced most of the pain. After each treatment, both his pains were better in intensity, frequency, and duration even with the same amount of physical exertion. In addition, the herbs helped increase his sense of well-being.
Discussion: This patient initially came to the clinic for pain in the left knee, both elbows, and lumbar four years ago. Since then, he had 24 treatments when the pains recurred. The initial treatment was the Wood-Order of LR1, HT8, SP3, LU8, and KD10, which did not relieve the pain. A switch to Metal-Order was immediately helpful and longer lasting.
