Complaints: Severe migraine since teenager. It had improved
incrementally overtime but severe bouts still occurred every 3 weeks and a low-grade
level of 3/10 pain was constant. It
almost always originated in left temple radiating to occiput. In addition, he
has been taking medication for anxiety and depression for 25 years. Chronic
mild to moderate neck, low back, and left knee pain. Decades of light sleep.
Acupuncture: Left-side Yang horary points in Metal-Order of
LI1, UB66, GB41, SI5, and ST36 with Fire points LI5, GB38, and UB60 for his Greater
Yin and Lesser Yang constitution (aka Pitta-Kapha in Ayurveda, Choleric in Unani,
and Taeeumin in Sasang). He also took Re Da Han Shao Tang (Ge Gen, Huang Qin,
Gao Ben, Lai Fu Zi, Jie Geng, Sheng Ma, Bai Zhi) for migraine and general health.
Treatment process: He had 17 visits over 3 months. The frequency
of treatment was at twice a week and gradually tapered down to every two weeks.
After the first treatment, he immediately noticed lessened headache, lessened body
ache, and improved memory. Although the improvement lasted only a few hours, the
contrast was enough to increase his hope. Because additional treatments were even
more helpful. he needed less pain medication. By the 12th visit, the
all problems were better by 80% in intensity, frequency, and duration. He had incremental progress with further treatments.
Discussion: In addition to relief of symptoms, he noticed an
increase in performance working at an emergency room at a major hospital with mental
clarity and physical stamina.
