Complaints: Chronic and sporadic low back pain with sciatica. He had persistent pain for one month, prompting him to seek treatment. Stretching did not help.
Acupuncture: Left-side yang horary points in Wood-Order of GB44, SI2, ST43, LI5, and ST36 (ST36 is as good as UB40).
Treatment process: The patient had 7 treatments in 4 weeks. The first treatment in Metal-Order of LI1, UB66, GB41, SI5, and ST36 produced some relief. In case the Wood-Order was better, the points were changed on the second visit. The relief was even better with a reduction of pain by half. Although there was a fluctuation of pain during the improvement process, it was mostly gone by the 7th visit.
Discussion: At times, the relief can be achieved with both Metal-Order and Wood-Order. However, one protocol is clearly better than the other.
