Treating ADHD with Holistic Approach and Without Medication

I have treated quite a few ADHD patients with holistic approach and no conventional medications. I wanted to talk about general therapies that can be used to help treat ADHD or ADD with no medication. Please see success case as well here.

 

What is the different holistic approach to treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)?

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a behavioral disorder, which is noticeable through a pattern of inattention or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development. Although there is not much research available of the cause of ADHD, however, several factors might contribute like genes, brain injuries, exposure to environmental toxins.

Alternative methods of therapies for ADHD without medication

There are some scientific research undertaken to support the impact of alternative therapies. The general treatments for ADHD start with training the parents to adopt various strategies to change the child’s behavior along with medication and educational programs. However, parents should consult a doctor trying any such therapies to avoid any side effects.

Exercise with Dietary adjustments

As per the research and result seen in most cases, the best alternative ways to lessen the effect of ADHD to couple regular exercise with proper diet. In most of the cases, brain training food comes to rescue like Omega-3 fatty acids, which is found in Fishes and other high-protein, low-sugar foods.

Vitamin Supplements

There are several ADHD vitamins and minerals, which triggers the production and regulation of neurotransmitter levels in the brain, especially when a child or adult is deficient in one of them. 

Vitamin C is a building block of neurotransmitters, while iron and vitamin B6 increase dopamine levels. However, you might want to talk to the doctor to get help for the right intake amount.

 

Herbs

Intake of “Herbs” can be a key to a good memory and thinking. However, while choosing the herbs the purity, safety factors of the same must be taken into consideration. For instance, there are herbs like valerian that could headache, blue algae cause stomach upset. 

 

Antioxidants:

Although there is no direct effect, antioxidants restores the nerve cells and has anti-remedial properties.

 

Biofeedback:

Adequate research has been done, but with small groups of children. This method requires the complete collaboration of family members. With this procedure, people are made to control own responses.

Summary and Outcome

There is no question about it: ADHD medication helps relieve the symptoms of ADHD. However, many people, for various reasons, can’t take medication or prefer not to. For instance, expectant mothers should not take stimulants. For them, alternative methods are a holistic approach to treat ADHD.
