Eliminating Food Allergies to Help your Healing Process


In my clinical practice, I see a lot of conditions that stem from food allergies. Food allergy is your body’s hypersensitive response to a food, which is a harmless substance. Often the food that is supposed to nourish your body, can end up creating disturbances in your body systems due to its interaction with a hypersensitive immune system.

This can lead to various reactions that range from severe as in anaphylactic reactions due to peanut allergy or moderate to mild reactions like stomach upsets or skin rashes. Some common examples, I have seen in my practice are children experiencing severe stomach aches or eczema due to an allergic response to dairy that often gets noticeably better in 2-3 weeks, once we test and then eliminate dairy products. It is common in my practice to test for gluten and then eliminate it to for people to start healing their digestion which helps relieve bloating, diarrhea, dermatitis and sometimes joint pain.

In Ayurvedic Medicine, 'Nidan Parivarjana’is the first line of treatment. Nidan means ‘causative factor' and could be a dietary or even lifestyle factor that initiates pathogenesis in your body, and Parivarjana means ‘avoiding it completely'.

Food allergies are one of the most common issues we see today in Canada and until and unless you stop eating whats distressing your system, you are only applying a band-aid on your problem without healing the root cause.
