About me

Hello and welcome, I'm Dr. Gaynel Nave, ND. You might remember being asked,"What would you like to become when you grow up?" For me the answer, to this question was always a physician. As a modest four-year-old woman this fantasy was birthed in the cool hills of the small district of Elgin in Malvern, Jamaica. I recall visiting botanical medicine aka"bush medicin''' in action firsthand when I'd find the influenza or'some tummy bug' for which mint tea or a bitter herb was often the remedy. My enamor and fascination with what the earth has to provide grew exponentially when I got in my science classes and learned about the medicinal properties of those plants. Throughout the years there have been highs and lows but my vision hasn't altered though the manner in which it is being achieved has. There were times when I was unsure if I had heard correctly, that perhaps I wasn't cut out to be a physician. The challenges and strife seemed at times too much, too hard, and myself too inadequate; but every time I believed the bough would break I slid back with greater resolve and determination into the vision of Dr. Nave. This stubborn spirit has grown together with the attentiveness of people who love me and whom I hold dear. My relationships with God, my loved ones and friends are as much a part of who I am now as my own attempt is. Due to their devotion to love me, my comprehension of community and what it means to function has expanded. I'm not only a citizen of the home country, Jamaica, but of the entire world. It was this notion that I am not restricted to the shores I call home that after finishing my high school education at Hampton School I came to the States. It was in the little town of Huntington, IN where I was to attend undergrad, I met the handsome guy I call husband. Much has happened since I was 4, but one thing stays the same, physician rings true in my mind and heart. "Doctor" has grown and morphed from a childhood dream into a vision of partnering in the wellness and empowerment of others physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It's my view that for complete healing to occur the integration of the psychological, emotional, physical and spiritual self has to be addressed. Growing up in Jamaica I realised that emotional and psychological wellbeing were often second-class taxpayers to bodily well-being. This saddened and sometimes infuriated me, because to divorce the mind or emotions from one's experience has deleterious outcomes. Disconnect of self can manifest as dependency, depression, anxiety, back pain as well as fibromyalgia to name a few. I'm passionate about enabling you to reconnect to your identity and reset the sails once the roles you perform change, or you simply feel lost. My goal is that you will go from an identity of victim to victor; so that you can live fearlessly and flourish in the face of your psychological and psychological stressors. Your hopes and dreams may vary, but one theme is going to be the same; to live a life entirely, uninhibited by your past experiences, mental disorders or perceived handicaps.
