About me
Dr. Rob Lamport, Founder of More Than Anatomy
I have been a yoga practitioner for 23 years, am a Doctor of Chiropractic and have been helping people move towards health since 2000.
My fascination with the body and mind traces back to when I was 17 and on my way to a professional golf career. Since then, my yoga practice and studies have only deepened that fascination.
When I was 23, I decided to become a yoga teacher and completed my teacher training one year later, in 1999. I could not wait to get started on this new adventure. However, it was not long before I realised that I really did not know enough to be teaching. I began questioning what people do with their bodies. Was I actually helping them? Or was I potentially going to make them worse? And on a personal level, what was the real effect of all the advanced asana I was practicing?
The month-long training I had completed for my much-prized certificate did not give me the tools to make me safe or effective as a teacher. I genuinely wanted to help people, but I needed to learn more.
As I continued learning, my desire to share knowledge with others grew, and More Than Anatomy was born. Its goal: to provide the tools that every yoga teacher requires to fully understand the human body and the effect yoga has on it. This thought has been the driving force behind much of my life work.
Aside from this, when I am not working, I am a pretty private guy. I continue to practice yoga daily, with a strong focus on pranayama. And I love to cook! My latest kitchen endeavour is perfecting a gluten-free sourdough pizza base. Spending time with my wonderful wife Tara and walking in nature with our two rescue dogs, Chintu, whom we found in India, and little Mia, who found us more recently in Italy.
