Medical History
40 year old female came to our clinic with Uterine Polyps. Uterine polyps result from an excess of estrogen in the body. Estrogen is responsible for thickening the uterine wall (the endometrium) but too much estrogen can cause outgrowths in the wall of the uterus. This can result in too much bleeding during the menstrual cycle, mid-cycle bleeding or other abnormal bleeding before, during and after the menstrual cycle.
Case Management
First we have to fix the underlying cause of the high estrogen. In this particular case, she was eating soy and drinking fennel tea (both of which are highly estrogenic). And on top of that her bile in the gallbladder was sludge-like and needed to be thinned out. It is the bile which clears the body of estrogen and if it becomes too thick the estrogen can accumulate in the body as it reabsorbs out of the bile and back into the circulation. This situation can also cause cysts on the breasts, ovaries and fibroid tumors. I had to give her several herbs to calibrate the ratio between estrogen and progesterone and she is fine now.
