Neck and Low Back Pain with Bisoma Acupuncture
Total years in practice: 20
Complaints: Chronic and constant lumbar pain with 2 bulging discs at 3-4 mm. MRI indicated the beginning of arthritis. Also, sporadic neck pain with disc herniation.
Acupuncture: Left- and right-side Yang Horary points in Metal-Order of LI1, UB66, GB41, Si5, and ST36.
Treatment process: Only a left-side treatment immediately provided relief of low back pain. Even with some fluctuation, the improvement was linear with less intensity, frequency, and duration. Most pain was gone by 16th visit. However, she had a sudden right neck and trapezius spasm with radiation down arm and index finger after lying down on her right side watching a movie on a couch. Continuation on left side in the next 3 treatments did not produce any relief. Bilateral acupuncture with right-side Metal-Order points immediately provided a relief. 3 treatments were enough to eliminate the neck and radiating nerve pain.
Discussion: Generally, one-sided acupuncture treats both sides of the body well. But an addition to the other side of the body can provide further relief.
