Complaints: Chronic fatigue with bouts of Epstein-Barr (EBV) symptoms since the 1980s. Abdomen was bloated. Tender and hard epigastric area on palpation. Nausea. Digestive enzymes are not helping. Vertigo. Flushed face. Dry mouth. Had Lyme disease in 1992. Urinating 3x a night. EBV may have caused deterioration of joints, necessitating knee replacement, thoracic fusion, shoulder replacement, and hip replacement. Multiple muscle/tendon/joint aches. Severe drenching of spontaneous night sweats without hot flashes.

Acupuncture: Right-side Yang horary points in Metal Order of LI1, UB66, GB41, SI5, and ST36 plus Wood points LI3, SI3, UB65, and ST43 as a central element for a Lesser Yang and Greater Yang combination (aka Pitta-Vata in Ayurveda, Hot-Damp Sanguine in Unani, Achievement in Need Theory, an ENFP/INFP/ENTP/INTP/ESFP/ISFP in MBTI). Two Sasang herbal formulas Liang Ge San Hua Tang (Sheng Di Huang, Ren Dong Teng, Lian Qiao, Zhi Zi, Bo He, Zhi Mu, Shi Gao, Fang Feng, & Jing Jie) and Jing Fang Di Huang Tang (Shu Di Huang, Shan Zhu Yu, Fu Ling, Ze Xie, Che Qian Zi, Qiang Huo, Du Huo, Jing Jie, & Fang Feng).

Treatment process: In 13 months, the patient had 49 treatments, starting with twice a week visit and gradually tapering down to every few weeks. She noticed less pain and slight increase in energy after the first tx. With continued acupuncture, there was an incremental but noticeable relief in both internal and external pain. Her flushed and hot face immediately subsided with acupuncture. From the 4th visit, the patient took herbs at twice a day and gradually down to once every 2 days after 8 months. Ren Dong Di Gu Pi Tang had reduced internal problems, except low appetite and spontaneous sweating, which reduced much less with Jing Fang Di Huang Tang. By the end of 12 months, most of problems were gone or much less.

Discussion: Correct herbs for her body type had normalized physiology and reduced opportunistic viral activity. Her goal of international travel is now a realistic fulfillment.
