Ayurvedic Therapy to Treat Peri anal Abscess and Anal Fistula

A 28-year-old male patient had come to the outpatient department with a complaint of severe pain and pus discharge from peri-anal area. The patient was experiencing severe pain especially during defecation along with pus discharge in the peri-anal area. He would feel pain if he was sitting for some time on a chair in the same position.
On examination:
The patient found to have developed an abscess in the peri-anal region with soiling of undergarments and sinus with external opening
Appetite: Normal
Micturition: Normal
Bowel Movement: Little constipated (with a feeling of incomplete evacuation) - altered
Sleep: Normal
Ayurveda. The purpose of this is to enable the sinus pathway to open up.
After drainage of pus along with Kshara sutra, the following oral medications were given as well:
Gandhaka Rasayana: 1 tablet, three times a day, with water, after food.
Triphala Guggulu: 1 tablet three times a day. After food, with water.
Diet and lifestyle Modification Advice: The patient was advised to follow a bland diet, with fewer spices and oil. In addition, he was advised to avoid processed food and add fiber-rich food to his diet so that his constipation can be relieved naturally. He was also advised not to sit in the same position for long hours as it would aggravate his sinus.
Results:
Sinus in the peri-anal area was reduced by 4 weeks of Ayurvedic therapy
Level of Pain subsided considerably after the sinus got reduced
Pus discharge was reduced significantly
We didn’t observe any recurrence for the next 6 months in our regular follow-ups.
