Are you among one of the 80-85% teenagers who has been affected by pimples on your face? Acne Vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory infectious disease condition that is most prevalent in youth. Acne usually affects the skin on the face, neck, upper part of the chest, and the back.  Ayurveda classifies acne as one of the minor ailments that resembles of a bacterial infection.  Ayurveda defines acne as vitiation among Vata dosha, Kapha dosha, and Rakta dhatu which can lead to the development of acne.

What are the causes of Acne?

Acne can result from various factors that include excess sebum production that can lead to hyperkeratinization triggering inflammatory mediators in blood, all of which play an important role in the pathogenesis of acne. Other factors that can cause acne include stress, irritation, potential dietary factors, irritation to the skin and increased androgen production irrespective of sex which is also referred to as hormonal acne. Acne can be characterized as blackheads and whiteheads (comedones), scaly red skin, large papules (nodules), pinheads (papules), cysts and sometimes scarring.
